We offer 2 divisions within the registry, Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse. Both divisions offer a Part-bred option. Gypsy Cobs Gypsy Cobs can be solid or colored (pinto or Appaloosa) and must provide a veterinarian height certificate between the ages of 3 yrs and 5 yrs. If over the age of 5 yrs when applying for registration, the height certificate must accompany the registration application. Horses seeking registration as Gypsy Cobs must meet the standard for registration.
Effective Jan. 1. 2006: All breeding stallions (both Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse) are required to be inspected and licensed for breeding. Stallion inspections will begin fall of 2006 Registration requirements include DNA testing. All mares and stallions must be DNA tested. Geldings of known parentage are also required to submit DNA results. Geldings of unknown parentage are not required to submit DNA results. With the exception of geldings claiming unknown parentage, no registration certificate will be issued before a copy of the DNA results have been turned into the GCDHA office.
Drum Horses Drum Horses must meet the physical criteria described in the breed standard, be certified as a minimum of 16hh on or before their 5th birthday, with both parents no less than 15hh. (If over the age of 5 yrs when applying for registration, the height certificate must accompany the registration application.) Registered Drum Horses may be the combination of; Gypsy Cob, Clydesdale, Shire and/or Friesian and maintain no less than 1/8 Gypsy Cob breeding. (Drum Horses may not be full Gypsy Cobs) Horses who do not reach 16hh, have one parent under 15hh or fall below the minimum 1/8 Gypsy Cob breeding, will be registered as Breeding Stock Drum Horses. Inspired by some of the recent working Drum Horses in the Queen's Cavalry, this breed is being developed as the quintessential heavy riding horse and outstanding driving horse. Effective Jan. 1, 2005: All Drum Horse foals seeking regular registration and born on or after 1/1/06, must maintain a minimum of 1/8 Gypsy Cob breeding. All Shires, Clydesdales and Friesians being used to produce Drum Horse foals must apply for an Identification Certificate and submit DNA samples.
