Historical Event:  On March 20, 2008, representatives from the Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse Association and the Gypsy Cob Society of America, held a meeting to discuss the responsibility of providing much needed unity within the breed sector.

As registries, it is our honor and obligation to safeguard the integrity and reputation of the breed, both now and for generations to come, while still meeting the immediate needs of the membership and planning for future needs.  With this in mind, the GCSA and the GCDHA representatives were able to reach an accord that would allow us to celebrate our similarities, ideals and strengths while working beyond minor differences to unite our two registries.

Many enthusiasts have expressed hope for a merge and it will now be placed in the hands of each registry’s membership.  We hope members will agree and will vote for unity!

Welcome to the official site of the Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse Association (GCDHA). The Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse Association was formed to protect the breed, record the parentage, preserve the history, and  promote the Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse as a breed in North America. Our goals include educating the public on the colorful history and versatility of the breed,  promoting responsible, quality breeding programs throughout the world and encouraging the use of the Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse as riding, driving, sport, family and utility horses.

The GCDHA is committed to the preservation, protection and promotion of the Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse as a breed.

We offer a Merit Awards Program for horses and individuals that show or promote their registered Gypsy Cob or Drum Horse through exhibits, parades or other public events

The GCDHA is the leading advocate for selective breeding practices. We respect the gypsy breeders that have brought an amazing breed so far in such a short amount of time and understand that only a sincere commitment to the future generations of the breed can sustain their accomplishment. The integrity of any breed, falls squarely on the shoulders of those who are breeding!

The Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse Association believes so strongly in promoting selective, quality breeding programs, that we are the first (and to date, the only) North American registry to require stallion licensing of all breeding stallions through physical inspection. No other method can accurately certify a horse's conformation, movement, quality of hair and bone or disposition and character. These, along with other breed characteristics, are the very essence of the Gypsy's prized Cobs. And as one highly regarded gypsy breeder said, "How could I vouch for the quality of a horse I had never touched?"

The Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse Association is also currently collecting DNA samples from horses in Britain, Ireland, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The GCDHA feels it is imperative to have a single, global DNA data bank and we are working with our members, throughout the world, to this end.

The Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse Association has more International members than any gypsy horse registry in North America.

If you are new to the world of the Gypsy Cob and Drum Horses, we invite you to take this opportunity to explore the history, and future, of these unique horses.
